New in v1.2.2
v1.2.2 bug fixes: Fixed getting stuck in the Underground Path below Gringey City (at the turn into the east-west tunnel your character froze and the menu would not open) and the crash when entering Nastina’s house (the colorful house in Porta Vista); fixed the Cycling Road gate blocking you even with a Bicycle; restored the two restaurants on the Porta Vista pier (Moe’s and Brutella’s, with a small quest and rewards) and the Sunny Town Pokémon Center (you used to be pushed straight back out); fixed wrong item names in the Bag; fixed story NPCs appearing/disappearing wrongly. Area names now match the Kanto map (e.g. west of Celadon is Route 16); holding B only lets you run after Mom gives you the Running Shoes. Saves from v1.2.1 and v1.2.0 keep working.
A new Kanto, built from the anime
- The Kanto map has been rebuilt to match the anime, and the Season 1 story is told through scripted scenes and dialogue, fully in English. A new game is required: saves from v1.1.0 and earlier will not work.
New and reworked story
- Pewter (Episode 5): the rock seller is Flint, at the rock shop at the top of Route 2. If you lose to Brock, Flint takes you to the hydroelectric plant to charge up Pikachu, then you get the anime-style rematch (with the sprinklers). After you win, Flint goes back to run the Gym.
- Episode 13: you catch a Krabby Lv14 yourself on the rock steps below Bill’s Lighthouse (with a full party, Krabby is sent to Prof. Oak), and there is a video call with Prof. Oak.
- Episode 24: the scene in Sabrina’s dollhouse. Haunter always stays with Sabrina.
- Celadon & Route 16 (Episodes 26–29): the perfume shop, “Ashley”, the Gym fire; the Hypno affair; the Pokémon Salon Roquet; the P1 Grand Prix with Meowth’s bomb. Every battle has a losing branch.
- Episodes 30–31 in Gringey City: the Muk Lv28 battle (the only source of Muk), the Diglett replanting the forest, a Team Rocket battle, and you receive Soft Sand.
- Episodes 46–57 rewritten: Grampa Canyon, the hospital, the mansion, Keith, Togepi (hatches after a Team Rocket battle and then goes with Misty), and all of League Boulevard (Episodes 51–57).
- New episodes: 60 (Blastoise Shell Island), 61 (the underwater ballet), 62 (Clefairy and the “UFO”), 66, 68 (Gloom does not evolve; you get a real Leaf Stone), 69, 70, 71, 72, 73. Episode 74, the torch relay: Ash lights the torch himself.
HMs and field tools
- The captain of the S.S. Anne gives you HM01 Cut and the Axe (if you miss them, the rescue sailor on the Vermilion pier hands them over). With the Axe you can chop down the small trees blocking your way; previously no tree could be cut.
- HM02 to HM07 can now all be obtained in Kanto (see the table just below). There is no HM08.
Bug fixes and gameplay changes
- S.S. Anne: Dig or an Escape Rope takes you back to the Vermilion City harbor. If you lose a battle on the ship, you rest right there on the ship.
- The Giant Pokémon Island (Episode 17): you can still open the Pokémon menu, but Teleport, Fly, Dig and Escape Rope cannot be used (you are stranded on the island, as in the anime). You leave through the island staff member, who takes you to Porta Vista. If you lose, you rest on the spot.
- The fake Day Care (Episode 57): Cassidy and Butch hold on to the Pokémon you left with them. You only get it back by winning in the basement (with a full party it goes to the PC); if you lose, you can battle again.
- Leaving Pokémon with Prof. Oak: the Pokémon is moved into a PC box.
- The League entrance exam: the borrowed team only counts as “seen” in the Pokédex, not “caught”.
- Officer Jenny has her own trainer class, “Officer”.
- Episodes 30–31: the Grimer swarm and the Diglett no longer walk through other characters.
- Leftover text errors at the Contest have been fixed.
- Paths: the cave entrance up to the Mount Hideaway plateau (Route 23) and the entrance to the Pokémopolis Ruins can now be used, so Moltres and the Episode 72 scene are reachable.
- Wild Pokémon: Route 1 now has only Pidgey, Rattata and Spearow. Every table now has Kanto species only. Golduck is only available by evolution.
Tools that replace HMs & where to get the HMs
In this version, obstacles on the map are cleared with tools, not HM moves:
| Tool | Used for | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Axe | Chopping small trees that block the path (“This tree looks like it can be cut! Use the Axe?”) | The S.S. Anne captain (Episode 15). If you miss it, the rescue sailor on the Vermilion pier gives it to you (after Episode 16) |
| Raft | Travelling on the sea | The old man on Cinnabar Island; requires the Volcano Badge. Before that, cross water with a Pokémon that knows Surf |
| Pickaxe | Smashing boulders that block the path | Gary gives it to you in Grampa Canyon (Episode 46). After the 7th badge, a Clefairy steals the Pickaxe; you get it back at Mt. Moon in the scene with Seymour |
| Bicycle | Moving fast | The Bike Voucher is in your Bag from the start of the game; take it to the Bike Shop in Cerulean to exchange it |
- Boulders can only be broken with the Pickaxe; the move Rock Smash cannot break them. Trees can only be chopped with the Axe; the move Cut does not replace the Axe.
- HMs are still discs that teach moves to Pokémon (Bag > Key Items > TM Case, pick the HM, then pick the Pokémon).
| HM | Given by / where | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| HM01 Cut | The S.S. Anne captain (together with the Axe); the rescue sailor on the Vermilion pier gives a replacement | Episode 15, before the ship capsizes; if missed, after Episode 16 |
| HM02 Fly | The girl who raises Pidgeot, in the grassy area north of Route 22, behind a cuttable tree | Requires the Axe |
| HM03 Surf | Kaiser, Safari Zone | End of Episode 35 |
| HM04 Strength | Koga, given together with the Soul Badge | Beat Koga (Episode 32) |
| HM05 Flash | Prof. Oak’s aide, in the gatehouse on the east side of Route 2 | Have caught 10 species |
| HM06 Rock Smash | Gary, Grampa Canyon, given together with the Pickaxe | Episode 46 |
| HM07 Waterfall | An item ball in the Victory Road cave, right before the ladder | On the way up to the League |
There is no HM08. Each HM can only be received once.
Getting Started
What is this game? You play as Ash and relive the Kanto journey of anime Season 1 (the Indigo League): get Pikachu, meet Misty and Brock, take on 8 Gyms, then compete in the Indigo League. The Kanto map has been rebuilt to match the anime, and the story is told through scripted scenes, cutscenes and dialogue, fully in English.
Story principles
- If an event happens in the anime → it plays out as in the anime. If it doesn’t → it follows the original game.
- Winning, losing or making a different choice each has its own outcome. If you lose, you go back to the Pokémon Center; when you return there is new dialogue and you can battle again. A different choice changes the dialogue, but the event still plays out in full. You can never miss an event.
- Special Pokémon (gifts, legendaries) can only be received once. Gift Pokémon and Pokémon from fixed battles have good individual values (IVs): legendaries, Mew, Mewtwo, Pikachu and the Charmander line have all 6 stats maxed; other species have their 3 key stats maxed (HP, their main attacking stat, and Speed — or Defense for slow species), and the other 3 are fairly high (20–31). Natures are chosen to suit each Pokémon’s role (physical or special attacker). There are no Shiny Pokémon.
The “Encounters” option (Options menu, last line):
- Show: wild Pokémon walk around on the map, always species from that area. Touch one to start a battle. After the battle it disappears.
- Random: as in the original game, random encounters while walking in grass.
- Your choice is saved with your save file. Show mode only works in Kanto.
v1.2.2 ends in Kanto. The hot-air balloon, the sailors at the harbor and Prof. Oak only say “I hear something’s coming up in the Orange Islands…”. Lapras and the Orange Islands episodes will come in a later update.
How to read the Pokémon tables: Method = Grass / Surf / Rock Smash / fishing (Old Rod, Good Rod, Super Rod). Rate = percentage within that method. Areas where the game never has random encounters get no table.

# Part 1 — Story Walkthrough
Pallet Town & Route 1 (Episode 1)
Events
- Ash oversleeps. Mom tells him to go to bed at 11 PM. The next morning, when he gets to the lab, only 3 empty Poké Balls are left.
- Prof. Oak gives you Pikachu and the Pokédex.
- Leaving the lab: Mom runs over to see you off and asks “Do you want to run all the time?” (Yes = Auto Run: you run automatically and hold B to walk; No = hold B to run). To change it later, go to the Options menu, Auto Run line. Mom gives you the Town Map and the Fame Checker. Ash changes out of his pajamas into his travel clothes. Prof. Oak does not give you Poké Balls at the start — your first Poké Balls come in Viridian Forest (from Misty).
- Route 1: a flock of Spearow attacks Pikachu. At the lakeshore, Ash jumps in holding Pikachu, surfaces on the north bank and meets Misty, who is fishing — this is where the bike story begins: Ash takes Misty’s bike and rides off to escape the Spearow.
Gifts & fixed battles
- Pikachu Lv5 (male, Timid nature, all 6 stats maxed) — received only once.
- Spearow Lv5 battle (wild): Pikachu throws a stone that hits a Spearow by mistake, and it calls the whole flock.
- In the middle of the storm: 2 real battles against the Spearow flock, Lv6 and Lv7 (with rain during the battle). Win: Pikachu unleashes a huge shock, Ho-Oh flies across the sky, Ash points his Pokédex at it: “No data”, and the rain stops. Lose: the next time you enter there is different dialogue and you don’t have to battle again.
- The Spearow flock area has 12 trainer battles against Fearow Lv50, which cannot be caught.

Viridian City (Episode 2)
Events
- Viridian’s south gate: Officer Jenny stops Ash, suspecting he stole Pikachu. The Pokédex confirms who he is, and Jenny rushes Ash to the Pokémon Center on her motorbike.
- Pokémon Center: Nurse Joy treats Pikachu. Team Rocket (Jessie, James, Meowth) raid the Center → double battle against Ekans + Koffing. The Center’s Pikachu all shock together. Misty demands her bike back.
- The north exit of Viridian is blocked until this episode is finished.

Viridian Forest (Episodes 3–4)
Events
- Episode 3 (entering the forest from the south): Misty gives you 5 Poké Balls and leads Ash into the grass. Automatic catching battle: you catch Caterpie (holding an Exp. Share, and given a nickname). Misty, terrified of bugs, runs off. A Pidgeotto swoops down → you catch Pidgeotto.
- Team Rocket blocks the path → double battle. After the battle Caterpie evolves into Metapod.
- Episode 4: Samurai (Pinsir) challenges you. Lose → come back, Samurai says something different and battles you again.
- The battle wakes up a Beedrill nest. What happens depends on your party:
- You have Metapod (as in the anime): a Beedrill carries Metapod off to the nest in the north of the forest. Chase after it and fight the Beedrill swarm. Metapod uses Harden to shield Ash, then evolves into Butterfree.
- You already have Butterfree: Butterfree drives off the swarm with Sleep Powder.
- You have neither: Pikachu holds them off.
- Lose at the nest → step into the nest area again to replay the chase.
Gifts & fixed battles
- Caterpie Lv5, Pidgeotto Lv7 — caught in the Episode 3 scene.
- Beedrill swarm Lv7–9 — scripted battles only.

Tip: In the gatehouse on the east side of Route 2 you’ll find Prof. Oak’s aide. Once you have caught 10 species, he gives you HM05 Flash (until then he just says “Not quite there yet!”).
Pewter City & Route 3 (Episode 5)
Events
- Flint’s rock shop is at the north end of Route 2 (up the rock steps, with a sign reading “Flint’s Rock Shop”). The seller’s name shows as “Rock Seller”: he tries to sell you rocks, reminds you that Brock uses Rock-type Pokémon and that Pikachu’s electricity is useless. In Pewter itself there is no longer a rock seller standing in front of the Gym.
- Brock, first battle: as in the original game. Win straight away → you receive the Boulder Badge + TM39, with no power plant scene. Losing is normal (back to the Pewter Pokémon Center).
- East gate (the exit to Route 3 / Mt. Moon): if you don’t have the Boulder Badge, the rock seller calls out “Hey kid, hold on!” and walks over:
- Haven’t battled Brock yet: he tells you to win the Boulder Badge first, and Ash steps back.
- Lost to Brock: he takes Ash down to the hydroelectric plant (the wooden building by the stream, south of the east gate) and into the generator room.
- Already charged up: “Go back to the Gym and battle Brock!”.
- Hydroelectric plant: press A on the generator (Pikachu must be in your party). Pikachu soaks up the electricity and your whole party is fully healed. The rock seller reminds you “Rock is weak to Water” and leaves. Without Pikachu, he tells you to bring Pikachu. Outside this scene, the generator only has dialogue.
- Brock, second battle (as in the anime; only available once Pikachu has been charged up): a ThunderShock hits the ceiling → the sprinklers turn on and it rains indoors; Brock’s soaked Rock Pokémon become Water-type → Electric attacks are super effective. Brock’s siblings run out to stop the fight, but Brock still gives you the Boulder Badge + TM39. If you haven’t charged up, the rematch is a normal battle (winning with other Pokémon still earns the badge).
- Leaving the Gym (with the badge): the rock seller walks up and reveals that he is Flint, Brock’s father, then goes in to run the Gym. Brock comes out, joins the group, and arranges to meet you at the foot of Mt. Moon.
- Afterwards: Flint stands inside the Gym; the rock shop on Route 2 is closed, with a sign saying “Closed for now. The owner is back running the Pewter Gym.”; the east gate is open for good.

Route 4 & Mt. Moon (Episode 6)
Events
- Misty and Brock are waiting at the cave entrance on Route 4. You don’t need the Pickaxe to get through the mountain.
- The cave with the string of lights: the scientist Seymour is chased by 2 Zubat. A Clefairy carrying a Moon Stone runs past, with Team Rocket in pursuit. Pikachu shorts out the lights and the cave goes completely dark.
- The Moon Stone chamber: a group of Clefairy around the big rock. Team Rocket arrives → double battle against Ekans/Koffing Lv12.
- Win: a flash of Metronome sends Team Rocket flying. The Clefairy dance and 2 of them evolve into Clefable. Seymour asks whether you believe Pokémon came from outer space (Yes/No). The dialogue changes depending on whether you’ve caught a Clefairy. Seymour gives you a Moon Stone.
- Lose: back to the Pokémon Center. When you return to the chamber, Misty/Brock bring up what happened, Team Rocket sneer “Haven’t learned your lesson?” → battle again.
- Leave through the east exit, back onto Route 4.
Gifts & fixed battles
- Moon Stone (item).

Cerulean City (Episode 7)
Events
- Entering the city from Route 4: Officer Jenny stops you because she doesn’t recognize you. Last night someone broke into a shop but only took a vacuum and a giant hose. Brock flirts with Jenny; Misty walks off when the Gym is mentioned.
- The Gym: the three sisters Daisy, Violet and Lily put on a water ballet, tell you they just lost three times in a row to kids from Pallet, and offer you the badge for free (Yes/No only changes the dialogue). Misty shows up, calling herself “the fourth sister” → battle with Misty.
- Pikachu refuses to battle Misty: Pikachu sits this battle out (it shows as fainted in the party menu), so you need at least one other Pokémon that can fight. If Pikachu is your only Pokémon, Misty tells you to go catch more and come back.
- Beat Misty: Team Rocket burst in with the very vacuum they stole, Misty heals your whole team (Pikachu is back) → Team Rocket battle (Double Battle vs. Ekans + Koffing Lv14; single battle if you only have 1 Pokémon). The vacuum drains the pool, Pikachu uses ThunderShock, and Team Rocket blasts off.
- Daisy gives you the Cascade Badge + TM03.
- Lose to Misty → back to the Center; return: “You again?” and battle again. Lose to Team Rocket → return, Misty: “You came back!”.

Route 24 — AJ’s gym (Episode 8)
Events
- AJ (98 wins) challenges you with Sandshrew. After the battle, Team Rocket shows up. Pikachu and Sandshrew (with Dig) send them flying. AJ thanks you.
- Lose → back to the Center; return and AJ teases “Thanks to you, my sign says 99 now” and battles you again.
- Refuse when AJ calls you → “Hmph, scared of my Sandshrew?” (no battle).

Events
- Episode 10 — the Hidden Village (enter by the east path from northern Route 5):
- You meet Oddish and Bulbasaur. There is a “no catching Pokémon” sign. Choose to throw a ball → Bulbasaur knocks the ball away and Melanie scolds you. Choose not to → Melanie thanks you.

- Lose to Team Rocket → return: “Team Rocket’s sneaking around again” → battle again.
- Episode 11 — Charmander (the rock in the middle section):
- It’s raining, and Charmander is still sitting there waiting for its trainer, Damian. A Spearow flock attacks (2 battles). Take Charmander to the Pokémon Center.
- The next morning Damian comes back along with Team Rocket. Choose to tell Damian off or stay silent (only changes the dialogue). Charmander flames Damian and then goes with Ash → receive Charmander.
- Lose to Team Rocket → return: “Charmander’s still here”, Damian: “You again?”.

Vermilion City & Bill’s Lighthouse (Episodes 13–14)
Events
- Episode 13 — Krabby (the rocks below the lighthouse): on the way into the lighthouse grounds (a narrow one-tile corridor), at sunset Ash sulks because Misty sneers that all his Pokémon were “handed to him”, and decides to catch one himself. A tiny Krabby crawls up onto the rock steps → wild battle against Krabby Lv14 (you fight and throw the ball yourself).
- Caught, with fewer than 6 in your party: Krabby joins your party. With a full party of 6: the Poké Ball flashes and vanishes, and Misty/Brock explain that Krabby has been sent to Prof. Oak’s lab (just like the anime).
- Krabby faints or you run: Krabby stays on the rock steps; talk to it to battle again.
- Lose: back to the Center; return to the corridor for the line “That Krabby from before is still here!” and battle again.
- Episode 13 — Bill’s Lighthouse: ring the bell and hear Bill’s voice. Gary has scribbled on the sign. Inside the lighthouse, Ash makes a video call to Prof. Oak: Oak is cooking, Krabby is safe, and Gary already has over 40 Pokémon and a much bigger Krabby. A talking “Kabuto” walks out — choose whether or not to throw a Poké Ball. It turns out to be Bill in a Kabuto costume. At nightfall, the shadow of a giant Pokémon (Dragonite) appears out at sea. Team Rocket fires a bazooka and Pikachu sends them flying. There are no battles in the lighthouse part.
- Episode 14 — Lt. Surge: Surge mocks Pikachu as a “baby Pokémon” and battles with Raichu Lv25.
- Win on the first try → special dialogue: “Impossible… on the very first battle”.
- Lose → back to the Center. If you haven’t met Joy yet, Surge sends you away. Nurse Joy at the Vermilion Pokémon Center offers a Thunderstone (Yes/No — Pikachu refuses it either way). Speed training at the harbor → “Lt. Surge, I want a rematch” → win.
- Receive the Thunder Badge + TM34.
- S.S. Anne tickets: ask the girls in town.
Gifts & fixed battles
- Krabby Lv14 (Episode 13, caught in the scene, once). If Krabby is in your party, it evolves into Kingler in round 1 of the League.

S.S. Anne (Episodes 15–16)
Events
- 1st-floor corridor: James buys a Magikarp from the salesman (he’s “all sold out”, so you can’t buy one).
- The Captain’s cabin: the Captain is seasick and Ash rubs his back. He teaches you how to use Cut, gives you HM01 Cut, and then hands over the ship’s Axe as well. Visit this cabin before fighting Team Rocket on deck, because the ship capsizes afterwards.
- If you miss it: after Episode 16, the rescue sailor on the pier at Vermilion harbor gives you whatever you’re missing (HM01, the Axe). Each can only be received once.
- The Axe goes in your Key Items pocket and is used to chop down small trees blocking the path. The move Cut cannot cut trees.
- The deck: a gentleman wants to trade a Raticate for your Butterfree. Yes/No/no Butterfree only changes the dialogue. A sailor blocks the way on deck.
- Team Rocket reveals itself → double battle.
- Win → a storm breaks out, the gentleman gives Butterfree back, and the ship capsizes.
- Lose → Brock helps everyone to safety, lets your team rest right there on the ship, then you go back to the deck (different dialogue).
- Episode 16: the ship is upside down and you’re trapped with Team Rocket. Magikarp’s Splash is useless; you break through the hull, escape and drift on a raft. James kicks Magikarp → Gyarados, and a whirlpool sweeps everyone to an island. No battles.
Tip: While the ship is still docked, using Dig or an Escape Rope on board takes you out in front of the Vermilion City harbor gate; get back on the ship the same way through the harbor. Teleport can’t be used inside the ship (like any building).

Events
- You wake up on the beach. Brock heals your team. Meowth is lost, roars echo across the island, and the “giant Pokémon” are actually robots.
- On the island you can still open the Pokémon menu, but Teleport, Fly, Dig and Escape Rope all say they can’t be used: the group is stranded on the island, as in the anime.
- Team Rocket battle on the east side of the island. Win → the robots short-circuit and Team Rocket blasts off. The island staff member takes you to Porta Vista (the only way off the island).
- Lose → Brock lets your team rest on the spot on the island, then battle again.
- To go back to the island, ask the rescue sailor on the Vermilion pier.

- A swarm of Butterfree is migrating, including a pink Butterfree. Ash’s Butterfree is turned down by the pink one.
- Team Rocket arrives in the Meowth balloon and nets the whole swarm → double battle. The net burns and the swarm is freed.
- Choices:
- Release Butterfree: a farewell; Butterfree leaves your party and flies off with the swarm.
- Keep Butterfree: “You want to stay with us?”, and Misty tells you to take good care of it.
- No Butterfree: Ash sighs “I wish I had one too…”; the battle and the rescue scene still happen.

Saffron City & the Pokémon Tower (Episodes 22–24)
Events
- Episode 22: the Saffron Gym. A warp panel takes you to Sabrina’s room. Her Abra evolves into Kadabra mid-battle (Kadabra Lv34).
- Lose (as in the anime) → back to the Center. When you return, Sabrina’s father stops you in the lobby, tells you about his daughter and points you to the Pokémon Tower in Lavender (go east via Route 8).
- Win straight away: Sabrina gives you the badge but still can’t laugh, and her father asks you to find a Ghost Pokémon.
- Episode 23 — the Pokémon Tower (2nd floor): Gastly and friends play tricks on Ash’s group → battle against Haunter Lv25.
- Win → Haunter decides to come with Ash (joins your party).
- Run → Gastly jeers “Look at them run!”, and you battle again the next time you enter the tower.
- Lose → back to the Center.
- Episode 24 — the dollhouse: go back to Sabrina’s room. Misty/Brock come along, and right before the battle Haunter vanishes from your party. Ash is about to run when Sabrina’s eyes flash: Misty and Brock turn into dolls, Ash is shrunk and drops into the dollhouse (a toy version of Saffron City). This is an automatic scene; you don’t walk around on your own: you meet the Misty and Brock dolls and the doll of Sabrina’s mother; Sabrina’s father teleports in to explain that she has two personalities; the roof is lifted off and Sabrina looks down; her father teleports Ash back to the Gym battle room.
- Rematch: Kadabra Lv37 + Mr. Mime Lv34. Win → Haunter appears and clowns around (toy bomb), Sabrina bursts out laughing, and Kadabra rolls on the floor laughing. Lose → back to the Center; return to the room, Haunter appears and makes Sabrina laugh, and she still gives you the badge (as in the anime). If you already got the badge in Episode 22, there is no battle and you go straight to the laughing scene.
- Misty and Brock are no longer dolls; Sabrina’s father: her mother has come back too. Receive the Marsh Badge + TM04 (different dialogue for win/loss).
- Haunter always stays with Sabrina. The question “Let Haunter stay with Sabrina?” only changes the dialogue (choose No: Haunter shakes its head and floats around Sabrina). Exception: if the Episode 23 Haunter is in the PC (not in your party), it isn’t taken.
- Sabrina’s father gives you the Silph Scope.
- At the west exit of Saffron there is a “one millionth visitor” scene.
Gifts & fixed battles

- Near the gate, Team Rocket are tied up: untie them, and they disguise Ash as a girl named “Ashley”, posing as her parents to sign her up → the Gym door opens.

- Win: Pidgeotto (if you have Pidgeotto/Pidgeot) or Pikachu smashes the mirror and Team Rocket blast off. You borrow a Drowzee to cure Misty and the children; the president gives you a TwistedSpoon. Lose: return to the Center, go back into the mansion for different dialogue, then rematch.

Win: Suzie and Vulpix (Fire Spin) help out, Team Rocket blast off, and Psyduck unties Misty. Lose: return to the Center, go back into the room for different dialogue, then rematch.
- Out in the street, Suzie (next to the shop sign) entrusts Vulpix to Brock (it’s Brock’s Pokémon and does not join your party).

Talk to it and choose to return it to its owner → Eevee joins your party (it can’t come along if your party is full). When you reach Stone Town (Episode 40), Mikey recognizes the lost Eevee from his family’s ranch and lets you keep it. This is the only Eevee.

Grampa Canyon (Episode 46)
Main entrance: from Neon Town, head straight west into the canyon (the two maps are connected and can be crossed both ways). The western end of the canyon leads to the edge of Grampa Canyon. The fossil cave is at the southern end of the canyon; the cave’s exit leads to another stretch of canyon, from which east takes you back to Neon Town and west to the canyon’s edge.
Events
- Gary is digging for fossils in the canyon (“The Great Fossil Rush”); he hands you his spare Pickaxe, along with HM06 Rock Smash. Use the Pickaxe to break the boulder blocking the cave mouth at the southern end of the canyon (the boulder only breaks with the Pickaxe; the move Rock Smash can’t break it).
- Fossil cave (first visit): Team Rocket fall in after you, Kabuto/Omanyte/Kabutops/Omastar wake up, and Team Rocket run away. A block of amber cracks open, Aerodactyl knocks out Charmeleon/Pikachu and carries Ash off to the canyon’s edge.
- Canyon’s edge: Misty/Brock dig their way over, Charmeleon evolves into Charizard (different dialogue if you have Charmander/Charizard) → Aerodactyl Lv30 battle.
- Catch it: Aerodactyl joins your party. Don’t catch it: Jigglypuff sings, everyone falls asleep, Aerodactyl crashes down and buries the cave, and Jigglypuff doodles on everyone’s faces. Afterwards Officer Jenny closes off the canyon, and Charizard dozes off and won’t obey.
- Lose → return to the Center. Go back out to the canyon: “Aerodactyl dives down again” → rematch.
- At the end of the scene, you receive a mysterious Egg at the canyon’s edge (a Togepi Egg). If your party is full, the Egg stays there; come back for it later.
Gifts & fixed battles
- Aerodactyl Lv30 — catchable. This is the only Aerodactyl in the game (there is no fossil revival): if you win without catching it, it disappears.
- Togepi Egg (1 Egg) — in Episode 50, Togepi goes with Misty.

Hospital, mansion & Keith’s forest (Episodes 47–50)
These episodes take place around the edge of Grampa Canyon and the mansion area east of League Boulevard (the canyon’s edge connects to the mansion area).
Events
- Episode 47 — Hospital: from the edge of Grampa Canyon, head west (toward the mansion area) and Pikachu suddenly collapses (choking on an apple) → the group rushes Pikachu to the hospital. Dr. Proctor refuses at first, then treats it; 2 Chansey, an injured Cubone. Team Rocket pose as patients with a giant syringe → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv30, Weezing Lv30, Meowth Lv28).
- Win: Proctor steps in, and an exploding Voltorb blasts Team Rocket away; Softboiled restores your party.
- Lose: return to the Center; go back to the hospital and the scene replays, then rematch.
- Episode 48 — Mansion: read the poster outside the mansion area, and the butler invites you in. Hall: the will is read, James’s parents spring up out of their coffins, and James runs upstairs. Upstairs: Jessiebelle (James’s fiancée) introduces herself, and Vileplume lets loose Stun Spore → Jessiebelle battle.
- Win: Growlie breathes fire and carries James out through the window in its jaws; outside, James says goodbye to Growlie and climbs into the Meowth balloon.
- Lose: return to the Center, come back and rematch.
- Episode 49 — Farfetch’d: outside the mansion area, a Farfetch’d runs into the forest and Misty chases after it. In Keith’s forest: Keith crashes into Misty and their backpacks get switched (Misty’s Poké Balls are taken), Officer Jenny arrives, and Psyduck leads the way. In the clearing in the northeast of the forest (hop over the log to get in): Keith tells the story of his Farfetch’d → Keith battle (Farfetch’d Lv32).
- Win: Team Rocket’s backpack turns out to be full of Voltorb that explode, Keith returns Misty’s balls and gives you a Stick.
- Lose: return to the Center, come back and rematch.
- Episode 50 — Togepi (western edge of the mansion area, the Egg must be in your party): Team Rocket pretend to sell Eggs, and Meowth steals the real Egg → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv31, Weezing Lv31).
- Win: Pikachu catches the Egg, and it hatches just as Misty squeezes in → Togepi. Asked “Let Misty raise Togepi?”: Yes → “Togepi picked you…”; No → Ash demands a battle to make it fair, Togepi cries, and he gives in: “But I’m still its ‘dad'”. Whatever you choose, Togepi leaves your party and goes with Misty.
- Lose: the Egg stays in your party; come back and rematch.
- If the Egg already hatched on its own in your party: the scene still plays as long as you have at least 2 Pokémon.

League Boulevard (Episodes 51–57)
A long boulevard with the League Exam Center, a police station and a Pokémon Day Care.
Each episode is a separate scene on the boulevard; if you lose any battle, return to the Center, come back to the same spot for new dialogue, then rematch.
Events
- Episode 51 — the secret garden (the garden gate is on the east side of the boulevard): a herd of Bulbasaur surrounds you, Venusaur calls out, and the Bulbasaur evolve into Ivysaur. If you have Bulbasaur in your party, it pops out of its ball and refuses to evolve. Team Rocket throw a net → battle (Arbok Lv35, Weezing Lv35, Weepinbell Lv34). Win: Venusaur fires SolarBeam and Team Rocket blast off. Afterwards, talk to Venusaur to learn SolarBeam (Yes/No).
- Episode 52 — Princess Festival: Team Rocket are having a picnic, Lickitung licks up all the cake, and Jessie catches Lickitung. Misty tells you about the festival and asks you to battle in her place (Yes/No only changes the dialogue) → “Princess Jessie” battle (Arbok Lv38, Weezing Lv37, Meowth Lv30, Lickitung Lv36). Win: Team Rocket steal the doll set, and Pikachu blasts them off; Misty gives you a Poké Doll.
- Episode 53 — Timmy and Meowth: Timmy tells the story of a talking Meowth that saved him. At the cliff around the middle of the boulevard, rocks come tumbling down, Team Rocket’s Meowth saves Timmy, and Jessie/James arrive → battle (Arbok Lv36, Weezing Lv36, Weepinbell Lv35). Win: Meowth stands up for Timmy, admits he’s with Team Rocket, then runs after his partners.
- Episode 54 — K-9: “Stop, thief!” → Carl battle (Meowth Lv35, Persian Lv37). Win: the K-9 squad (3 Growlithe) and Officer Jenny arrive: Carl is a police cadet playing a thief. At the police station there’s also a battle with Officer Jenny (Growlithe Lv38 ×2, Arcanine Lv40).
- Episode 55 — Todd: Todd is secretly taking photos from the bushes and asks to photograph Pikachu (Yes/No only changes the dialogue); the “old couple” turn out to be Team Rocket → battle (Lickitung Lv37, Arbok Lv38, Weezing Lv38). Win: Todd snaps a shot of “Team Rocket blasting off into the sky”.
- Episode 56 — Pokémon League Exam (Exam Center; Jessie/James, disguised as examinees, enter at the same time, and on the way out there’s a line about “their answer sheets were nothing but drawings of Meowth”):
- Written section, 6 questions. 0 points → you fail immediately: “Sorry, no retakes.” (your party is returned to you).
- Practical section: your real party is held for you, and you receive a loaned party of 3 Lv50 Pokémon (random). Fight 3 battles against examiner Dimitri.
- The three loaned Pokémon are only registered as seen in the Pokédex, not caught.
- Win all 3 → “You passed the Exam!” and you get your real party back.
- Lose partway through → return to the Center (still holding the loaned party). Step out onto the boulevard or into the exam room, and a League staff member returns your real party. Ash: “I lost with Pokémon that weren’t mine… I’ll get into the League with 8 Badges and my own team!” (just like the anime: Ash fails).
- You can’t leave the exam room partway through.
- Episode 57 — the fake Day Care: the first time you enter the Pokémon Day Care, Misty leaves Psyduck with a familiar-looking “staff member” (Cassidy in disguise). If you leave a Pokémon at the counter, it gets held by the scammers (asking again only gets you “still training it!”). Go down to the basement:
- Jessie/James break in, Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel and chomps down on James’s head → battle (Arbok Lv40, Lickitung Lv40, Weezing Lv40, Victreebel Lv41).
- Deeper in: Cassidy & Butch (“Hutch?” “Butch!”) → battle (Raticate Lv42, Primeape Lv42). Win: Psyduck’s headache kicks in and it uses Confusion to send them flying; the Pokémon you left is returned (if your party is full, it goes straight to a PC box).
- Lose: the Pokémon you left stays held; go back to the basement and fight again to get it back.
Gifts & fixed battles
- The loaned parties in the exam (10 sets, each with 3 Lv50 Pokémon) are taken back and are not gifts.

Cinnabar Island (Episodes 58–59)
How to get there: from Route 4 (east of Mt. Moon), enter Rock Tunnel and come out on northern Route 21 – north. From there, travel by sea with a Pokémon that knows Surf (HM03, Episode 35) heading south (or go around via southern Route 21 – north) to the Cinnabar volcano; from the foot of the volcano, walk south to Cinnabar town. The Riddle Inn (Blaine’s Gym) is entered from the side of the volcano.
Note: the Route 21 sea route south of Pallet does not lead to Route 21 – north; surfing from Pallet only takes you to the Old Shore Wharf.
Events
- The Riddle Inn. Once you’ve answered the riddles, Blaine reveals himself → battle 1. The volcano shakes: Team Rocket, lava, and Pikachu and Magmar join forces. Team Rocket blast off.
- Blaine leads you up to the volcano’s summit → main battle (Magmar Lv46) → Volcano Badge.
- Once you have the Volcano Badge, the old man on Cinnabar gives you the Raft: from now on you can travel by sea without a Pokémon that knows Surf.
- Lose battle 1 → return to the Center. Go back to the outer room, the Team Rocket scene replays (“This time we’ll win”), then go up to the summit for the rematch. Blaine’s dialogue changes depending on your party (whether you have Charizard or not).
- Cinnabar Lab: a fossil researcher tells you ancient Pokémon are still alive in the cave in Grampa Canyon. There are no fossils and no fossil revival in this game.

Blastoise Shell Island (Episode 60)
Events
- Go to the eastern edge of the dock area on the north side of Cinnabar Island (this area connects to Route 21 – north): Misty/Brock arrive, and a Wartortle from the sea crashes into Ash. If you have Squirtle in your party, Squirtle pops out to talk and then dives into the sea with Wartortle; if not, Pikachu hears the story. The ferry has already left, so the group borrows a boat out to the turtle-shell-shaped island (southern Route 21 – north). Or surf to the sandy beach on the south side of the island yourself; the scene plays the same way.
- On the island: a singing voice puts Ash to sleep, Pikachu wakes him up, the whole turtle colony wakes, Blastoise crawls out, and Jigglypuff is stuck in its water cannon. Team Rocket arrive in a Gyarados submarine and tow Blastoise away, the sub sinks, and the turtles push Blastoise back → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv40, Weezing Lv40).
- Win: Pikachu (and Squirtle, if you have it) fires into the water cannon, Jigglypuff shoots out, Blastoise wakes up, the turtles spray water, and Team Rocket blast off; Jigglypuff sings everyone to sleep and doodles on their faces.
- Lose: return to the Center. Come back via the sandy beach on the south side of the island, or go to the dock and answer “Borrow a boat… to help Blastoise?” → Yes → “back again” dialogue, then rematch.
- Blastoise is a character in the scene — no battle, and it can’t be caught.
Cerulean Gym — Underwater Ballet (Episode 61)
Events
- Enter the Cerulean Gym: Misty/Brock follow you in, and Daisy/Lily/Violet advertise their “Underwater Ballet” show. The show: Misty swims with Seel and Goldeen. Team Rocket lock Lily/Violet in a closet and throw a net to scoop up Goldeen → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv41, Weezing Lv41).
- Win: Seel takes a Poison Sting and then evolves into Dewgong, Ice Beam freezes Team Rocket, and Pikachu unleashes its electricity. The audience thinks it’s all part of the show. Misty leaves Horsea and Starmie with her sisters; Daisy asks for Togepi and then Pikachu, and Ash says no.
- Lose: return to the Center, go back into the Gym for “back again” dialogue, then rematch.
Viridian City — Clefairy and the “UFO” (Episode 62)
The whole episode takes place in the flower meadow in northeast Viridian City, all within a single map (there is no separate underground cave anymore).
Events
- The first time you enter Viridian after the Volcano Badge: the screen goes dark, and the group is eating ice cream in the flower meadow. A Clefairy snatches the ice cream and the backpacks get stolen; Officer Jenny and Mr. Oswald (a UFO hunter). Night falls: a glowing object descends and turns into a “flying saucer” (the Meowth-face balloon), and “aliens” pull Pikachu into a cage. Pidgeotto/Pidgeot bites through the rope (if you don’t have one, Brock’s Zubat does) → Team Rocket battle (Meowth Lv40, Arbok Lv42, Weezing Lv42).
- Win: Clefairy grabs Pikachu’s cage and slips down a manhole, the ground shakes, and Team Rocket flee in their balloon. Jigglypuff pops up and sings, the Clefairy spaceship rises out of the ground and shoots off into the sky; the cage drops back down, Pikachu breaks out, and the stolen items fall back and are returned. Mr. Oswald chases after the ship, and Jenny thanks you.
- Lose: return to the Viridian Pokémon Center; step out into town, and the balloon and Team Rocket are still waiting there — “back again” dialogue, then rematch.
Viridian Gym (Episode 63)
Events
- The guard at the Viridian Gym gate blocks you until you have 7 Badges.
- Gary battles Giovanni, and the armored Mewtwo wipes out Gary’s team. Giovanni leaves and hands the Gym over to Team Rocket → battle on Meowth’s electrified floor: Team Rocket (Arbok Lv45, Weezing Lv45, Persian Lv44) → Pikachu’s electricity backfires on them and Team Rocket blast off → Earth Badge.
- Lose → return to the Center; come back, Team Rocket still hold the Gym, different dialogue, rematch.
Pallet Town — Mimey & Prof. Oak’s ranch (Episodes 64–65)
Events
- Episode 65 — the ranch (unlocks right after the Volcano Badge, so you may see it before Episode 63): back in Pallet, Prof. Oak greets Ash in the middle of town, Muk glomps Prof. Oak, Gary (10 Badges) drops by to show off, and Team Rocket try to steal the Pokémon at the ranch but get rammed sky-high by the Tauros herd. No battle; it plays only once.
- Episode 64 — Mimey (after the Earth Badge): Mr. Mime is sweeping the yard in front of Ash’s house, and the neighbor lady tells the story.

The North Pole (special episodes S01–S02 “Holiday Hi-Jynx” / “Snow Way Out!”)
Reached from Sunny Town (Route 19). Unlocks after the Earth Badge.
Events
- Talk to the Jynx clutching a red fur boot in Sunny Town (before the Earth Badge, it just stands there gazing north). A Lapras swims up to the shore, and you’re asked “Ride Lapras to take Jynx home to the North?”:
- Yes → Lapras carries the group to the North Pole.
- No → Lapras dives under but stays near the shore; talk to Jynx again to go.
- At Santa’s Workshop (the North Pole): the Jynx are overjoyed, and Santa gives you a Poké Doll. To return to Kanto, ask the Lapras outside. Lapras is only a means of transport and can’t be caught in this version. No battles.

Episodes 66–73 below all unlock after the Earth Badge (except Episodes 71–72 on Mount Hideaway, which need no Badge but lie deep along the Route 22 → Route 23 path). Every battle has a losing branch: return to the Center, come back and your opponent will be waiting; talk to them to rematch.
Seafoam Islands — Prof. Westwood (Episode 66)
Travel by sea (Surf or Raft) from Pallet down to Route 21 (the sea route south of Pallet). Along the sea route there’s a sandy beach with Prof. Westwood V’s lab (Seafoam Islands).
Events
- Enter the lab: Prof. Westwood V (the creator of the very first Pokédex) explains that Prof. Oak asked him to find out why Slowpoke evolves into Slowbro, and tells you to head out to the beach first.
- The beach: Misty, Brock and Psyduck “talk” with a Slowpoke. Team Rocket arrive, planning to use Jessie’s Shellder to make Slowpoke evolve and then steal it; Shellder clamps onto Psyduck’s head by mistake → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv42, Weezing Lv42, Shellder Lv41).
- Win: Shellder clamps onto Slowpoke’s tail → it evolves into Slowbro, and Slowbro sends Team Rocket flying. Westwood explains “symbiosis” and invites you to stop by the lab for a gift (the gift is unconfirmed).
- Lose: Team Rocket wait on the beach; talk to them to rematch.
Xanadu Nursery (Episode 68)
The Xanadu Nursery greenhouse is in Viridian City (its door is right in town).
Events
- Enter the greenhouse: Misty/Brock follow you in. Your Pokémon sniffs the pollen of the rare Stun Stem plant and is paralyzed (if you have Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur sniffs it, as in the anime; if not, Pikachu); Florinda’s Gloom drips sap on it to cure it. Florinda is sad because Gloom won’t evolve even though she used a Leaf Stone — it turns out to be a fake stone sold by Team Rocket. Team Rocket steal the Stun Stem plant → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv43, Weezing Lv43).
- Win: Gloom uses Double Team and then SolarBeam to blast Team Rocket away. Gloom does not evolve (true to the anime). Florinda proposes to Potter the gardener (Brock is heartbroken) and gives you a real Leaf Stone.
- Lose: Team Rocket stand next to the rare plant; talk to them to rematch.
Mount Hideaway — the movie “Pokémon in Love” (Episode 69)
The lakeside campground (Route 23 – lake surface), reached by heading up from the north of Route 22. A tree blocks the entrance; you need the Axe to cut it down.
Events
- Walk across the row of tiles on the south side of the campground: Katrina and Raichu invite you to a practice battle, and Team Rocket throw a net that catches Raichu by mistake. Director Schpielbunk has been filming in secret and invites your Pokémon to an audition at the lakeside stage to the north.
- The stage: you’re asked whether Pikachu can audition (Yes/No only changes the dialogue; if you have Jigglypuff in your party, there’s extra audition dialogue). Only Psyduck gets a role. Team Rocket wreck the film set with a magnet crane → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv44, Weezing Lv44).
- Win: the climactic scene gets shot, and you receive a Nugget (your appearance fee).
- Lose: Team Rocket stand on the stage; talk to them to rematch.
Celadon City — Meowth in Hollywood (Episode 70)
Unlocks after finishing Episode 69. The front yard of the Celadon Theater (the narrow path leading to the theater door).
Events
- Step into the narrow path in front of the theater: Meowth runs into Persian’s gang and Meowzie again and recalls his past (learning to walk on two legs, learning to speak human language). Two of the gang’s Meowth charge in → 2 wild battles back to back (Meowth Lv42, Meowth Lv43).
- Win: Meowth fights Persian one-on-one on the theater roof and wins, but Meowzie chooses to stay with Persian; Jessie and James comfort Meowth. Extra dialogue if you have Meowth/Persian in your party.
- Lose or run away: the gang’s Meowth block the avenue; talk to them to rematch (you won’t miss the event).
- Afterwards, go through the theater’s front door to watch the premiere (Director Schpielbunk is waiting).
Mount Hideaway — Bruno & Onix, Pokémopolis Ruins (Episodes 71–72)
Continue north from the campground (Episode 69) to reach Mount Hideaway (Route 23 – Moltres Mountain). The mountain has two levels that don’t connect above ground: the lower slopes and the plateau above. You travel between them through a cave (Route 23 – summit path).
Events
- Episode 71 (lower slopes):
- On the stone steps up from the lake: Misty/Brock talk about Bruno, an old woman sells meatballs, and Team Rocket, posing as “hermits”, get chased off by her broom.
- Up at the plaza: a giant Onix comes crashing down, and Bruno has the whole group train with him. Team Rocket fire on Onix → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv43, Weezing Lv43). If you have Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise in your party, there’s extra Water Gun dialogue.
- Win: Ash falls into a crevice, Bruno jumps down to save him, frees the Sandslash stuck inside Onix’s body, then catches Onix. No gift.
- Lose: you return to the plaza, Bruno says “You’re awake?”, Team Rocket have different lines, then you battle again.
- Episode 72 (the plateau, right at the mouth of the cave you just came out of):
- Vulpix and Jigglypuff; a missed attack uncovers an ancient temple; Eve (a young archaeologist) and the professor come out of the ruins. At night, Team Rocket’s Arbok steals the “black object” and Team Rocket get sucked in; in the morning a giant Gengar appears and sucks in Pidgeotto too (Brock’s Onix if you have no Pidgeotto/Pidgeot) → “Giant Gengar” battle (possessed Team Rocket: Arbok Lv44, Gengar Lv46; can’t be caught).
- Win or lose, it ends the same way: a giant Alakazam, Pikachu’s electric attack, Jigglypuff and a giant Jigglypuff singing everyone to sleep, and everyone is set free. Eve gives you a Star Piece. If you lose, you return to the Pokémon Center; go back up to the plateau and Eve wakes you, then the ending scene plays (no rematch).
- Moltres (after Episode 74) is also on this plateau.
Route 22 — Otoshi & Marowak (Episode 73)
Events
- The trigger tile is on the path from Viridian up to northern Route 22, and it only fires once you have the Earth Badge — so you may see Episode 73 before Episodes 69, 71 and 72.
- Otoshi and Marowak block the path and demand your badges → Otoshi battle (Marowak Lv45, Doduo Lv42). If you have Bulbasaur/Ivysaur/Venusaur in your party, the battle dialogue changes.
- Otoshi admits Team Rocket tricked him out of his badges; Pidgeotto (if you have one, otherwise Brock) finds James and Meowth; Marowak storms off in anger, then comes back to help → Team Rocket battle (Arbok Lv44, Weezing Lv45). Win: Marowak’s bone punctures the balloon, Misty catches the bag of badges, and Otoshi gives you a Thick Club.
- Lose either battle and you go back and redo that same battle.
Tip: Also on Route 22, the grassy area to the north has a tree you can cut down with the Axe; behind it is a girl who raises Pidgeot and gives you HM02 Fly (see the Victory Road section).
Indigo Plateau — The League Torch Relay (Episode 74)
The torch plaza (the area name sign reads “Indigo Plateau”) — past the League gatehouse; you need all 8 badges.
Events
- At the start of the torch plaza: a crowd is cheering (Misty: “I don’t think they’re looking at you”), and the torch runner arrives. Mr. Goodshow asks Ash if he wants to carry the torch:
- Yes → you take the torch (Ash carries it on the map).
- No → Ash hesitates, Misty and Brock talk him into it, and he takes the torch anyway.
- Carry the torch up to the cauldron: Team Rocket block the way, Meowth snatches the torch, Pikachu uses ThunderShock → Team Rocket battle (Jessie & James: Arbok Lv45, Weezing Lv45, Victreebel Lv44).
- Win: Pikachu blasts Team Rocket off, Ash lights the main torch himself, and Goodshow and the torch runner congratulate him. Keep going up: Gary shows up and leaves, and Moltres bursts out of the flame and flies off toward the mountain.
- Lose: you return to the nearest Pokémon Center (still holding the torch); go back and you get the line “The twerp again!”, then battle again.
- After this scene, Moltres waits on the Mount Hideaway plateau (see the Post-League section).
Gifts & fixed battles
- The “owned Onix Lv45” battle on the mountain is gone: it’s replaced by the Episode 71 scene (Bruno, Team Rocket battle).

Victory Road & the Indigo League (Episodes 75–80)
The way to Indigo: Viridian → Route 22 → Victory Road cave → League gatehouse → torch plaza → Indigo Plateau.
- Victory Road is mandatory: the direct entrance to the gatehouse on Route 22 is blocked by boulders, so you have to go through the cave to reach the gatehouse. Magmar is found only in the cave (1% rate).
- If you reach the cave entrance without the Earth Badge, Officer Jenny stops you and warns that the cave is full of very high-level Pokémon.
- The gatehouse guard lets you onto the torch plaza once you have all 8 badges (as in the anime); otherwise he tells you that you don’t have enough badges.
- HM02 Fly (Route 22): in northern Route 22, a small tree blocks a grassy area. Cut it down with the Axe and meet the girl who raises Pidgeot → receive HM02 Fly.
- HM07 Waterfall (Victory Road): inside the cave, an item ball sits right in front of a ladder. Pick it up to get HM07 Waterfall (along with a note).
Events
- Register, then meet Ritchie and his Pikachu, Sparky.
- 4 rounds on 4 fields, each with a gatekeeper: Water Field — Mandi (Lv43–44), Rock Field — Kevin (Lv44–45), Ice Field — Pete (Lv45–46), Grass Field — Jeanette (Lv45–47). Lose a round → heal in the lobby and talk to the gatekeeper again: “The officials will let you rematch”. If Krabby is in your party, it evolves into Kingler after round 1 (as in the anime).
- Ritchie battle (the stadium, Top 16; Butterfree, Pikachu Sparky, Charmander Zippo, Lv48–50):
- Win → you reach the Top 8, then lose to Assunta in the quarterfinal because your team is exhausted (told through dialogue).
- Lose → “Winner: Ritchie!”, Ash apologizes to his team, Ritchie comforts him → Top 16 (the line about Charizard only appears if you have a Charizard).
- Back to Pallet after the League: at your front door you meet Mom and Prof. Oak (who praises your Top 8 or Top 16 finish), Team Rocket crash the party, Pikachu lets loose with electricity; Mr. Mime and the neighbor. At the end of the scene Ash says: “The Orange Islands… I hear something’s coming up there! Pikachu, let’s wait for news!” — v1.2.2 ends here.

Mewtwo — Cerulean Cave
- The cave entrance is on a rocky ledge below the cliff northwest of Cerulean. Before you’re Champion: “There’s a dark cave mouth in the cliff…”, and Ash doesn’t dare go in.
- After becoming Champion: “Go inside?” → Yes. You have to travel over water (Surf or the Raft) to reach Mewtwo.
- Win without catching: “Mewtwo sinks to its knees… then vanishes in a flash of purple light…”. A ladder in the cave takes you back out to the Cerulean ledge.

Articuno — the North Pole
- The deepest level of the ice-core cave at the North Pole (where the Seafoam Islands are in the original game). It only appears after the League.
Moltres — Mount Hideaway Plateau
- Unlocked right after the Episode 74 torch relay scene. Route: Route 22 → the lakeside campground (Route 23 – lake) → Mount Hideaway lower slopes → the cave up to the summit → the plateau (next to the entrances to the Pokémopolis Ruins).
Mew — New Island
- After becoming Indigo League Champion, go to the pier at the harbor west of Viridian (the way to Route 21 – Old Shore Wharf) and talk to Officer Jenny while the storm is raging.
- Paddle the raft out to New Island: the raft breaks apart in the storm, and your Water-type Pokémon (or Pikachu) brings you ashore.
- The “Mewtwo Strikes Back” movie scene: Mewtwo, the cloning lab, Mew, the Pokémon’s tears. When the movie ends you’re back at the harbor and the storm has cleared.
- Talk to Jenny again and take the raft to the island. Stand at the end of the New Island pier to paddle back any time.
- Steps already in the game (for reference): make a videophone call to Mom at the Old Shore Wharf Pokémon Center → go out to Route 21 – Old Shore Wharf, where Dragonite delivers an invitation; accept it to get the Anchor Ticket, and a storm blows in → raft to New Island → entering the castle starts the movie. After the movie, at the harbor: “The sea has calmed. Raft over to New Island?” → Yes.
- There’s a bubble on the island’s pier → Mew Lv30.
- How to get there: Route 21 → Old Shore Wharf → New Island pier; there’s also an underwater route.

# Part 3 — Other Areas (place in the story not yet determined)
Hot-air balloon (branching off Route 1, near the dock for the Orange Islands): Poké Mart raffle → hangar owner → balloon hangar → board the balloon and battle Team Rocket (lose and you return to the Pokémon Center) → take the wheel, “Try landing?” → Yes → “I hear something’s coming up in the Orange Islands…”, and then you’re back at the balloon hangar. The sailor at the dock wants a “Tropical Ticket” and also just tells you the ship hasn’t departed yet.
The areas below have wild Pokémon but aren’t tied to any episode yet. Reachable: Route 21 (by sea from Pallet), Route 21 – north and Rock Tunnel (entrance on Route 4), Kabuto Cave (entrance inside Neon Town), the Route 17 rocky gorge (connected to Laramie Ranch; Pokémon only via Rock Smash). Pokémon Park can’t be entered in this version: no door or path leads to it.
Around Route 21 – Rock Tunnel: Route 21 (sea) is the sea route south of Pallet (Surf from here to the Old Shore Wharf, not to the northern Cinnabar stretch); Route 21 – north connects to the Cinnabar volcano; Rock Tunnel connects Route 21 – north with Route 4. The Blastoise on Blastoise Shell Island (southern Route 21 – north) is just a character in the Episode 60 scene — no battle, and it can’t be caught.

# Appendix C — Known Issues in v1.2.2
- The following Pikachu disappears after a fade to black or a cutscene. Take 1–2 steps and it reappears.
- The Axe in the Bag temporarily uses a parcel icon (only the picture is different; it works normally).
- Prof. Oak still promises that Pokémon you leave with him “will gain lots of experience”, but those Pokémon sit in a PC Box, so they don’t level up.
- The “Encounters: Show” mode (Options > Encounters) is only available in Kanto.
Fixed before the v1.2.2 release: Teleport/Dig on the S.S. Anne and on Giant Pokémon Island no longer send you back to Pallet; leaving Giant Pokémon Island no longer removes the Pokémon option from the menu; borrowed teams in the League exam no longer count as “caught”; leaving Pokémon at the Day Care or with Prof. Oak no longer leaves them in your party; losing in the League lobby now heals you at Nurse Joy’s counter; losing at Porta Vista, Route 5 or Route 11 sends you to the nearest Pokémon Center; Trainer Janice no longer challenges you over and over; the Dark City area name is correct; the Charizard line after losing to Ritchie only appears if you have a Charizard; characters in scenes no longer walk through trees or people (including the Grimer horde in Episode 30 and the Diglett in Episode 31); placed Pokémon no longer wander all over the map; Pokémon on the map no longer float and have the right colors; Ho-Oh is clearly visible; the opening scene shows only 1 Pikachu; the Mewtwo battle no longer shows “Lv0 ?”.
# Appendix D — Stats of Gift, Event and Egg Pokémon
Every Pokémon that is given to you, caught in a fixed battle (legendaries, Snorlax, Porygon…) or hatched from an event Egg comes with great stats built in:
| Type | IV | EV | Nature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legendaries, Mew, Mewtwo, Ash’s Pikachu, the Charmander line | 31 in all 6 stats | 252 / 252 / 4 (508 total) | suits its role |
| Other gift and fixed-battle Pokémon | 3 main stats at 31, the rest 20–31 | 252 / 252 / 4 (508 total) | suits its role |
- EV spread: fast Pokémon get 252 in their main attacking stat and 252 in Speed. Slow Pokémon get 252 HP and 252 in their main attacking stat. The remaining 4 points go into a third stat.
- Role-appropriate Nature: special attackers are usually Modest/Timid, physical attackers Adamant/Jolly.
- Togepi Egg (edge of Grampa Canyon, Episode 46): it keeps its full IVs, EVs and Nature when it hatches — but in Episode 50 Togepi always goes with Misty.
- Unchanged: the gender and shiny status of preset Pokémon, e.g. Ash’s Pikachu is male. Nothing turns out shiny by accident.
- Does not apply to ordinary wild Pokémon or Trainers’ teams.
# Appendix E — Evolution Without Trading: the Linking Cord
- Where to buy: the left-hand counter on 2F of the Celadon Department Store, for ₽2100.
- How to use: it’s a key item (in the Key Items pocket) and isn’t used up, so you only need one. Open the Bag, go to Key Items, select the Linking Cord, choose Use, then pick the Pokémon.
- It can evolve:
- Kadabra into Alakazam
- Machoke into Machamp
- Graveler into Golem
- Haunter into Gengar
- After evolving, the Nature, IVs and EVs stay the same.
- Trading with NPCs: this version has no NPC trades yet. Species usually obtained by trading (Mr. Mime, Jynx, Machop, Tangela, Seel…) can all be caught or received elsewhere (see Appendix A).
# Appendix F — Extra Notes
- Magmar: catch it on Victory Road (the cave near the Indigo Plateau), 1% rate.
- Pinsir: catch it in the Safari Zone (the first area), 4% rate, in the same area as Scyther.
- Lapras: met in the Orange Islands, not in this version.
- Bicycle: your Bag has a Bike Voucher from the start of the game; take it to the bike shop in Cerulean to trade it for a bike. Use the bike from the Key Items pocket; you can’t ride it indoors or in caves.
- Axe, Raft, Pickaxe: field tools (cutting trees, crossing water, smashing rocks); see the “Tools that replace HMs & where to get HMs” table at the start of this guide.
- Leaving Pokémon with Prof. Oak: Pokémon you leave with him are moved to a PC Box; take them out at a Pokémon Center PC.
- Togepi: in Episode 50 (the western edge of the mansion area), after the battle with Team Rocket, the Egg hatches and Togepi leaves your party to go with Misty, as in the anime. There’s no longer a battle with Misty. If the Egg already hatched in your party, the scene only plays when you have at least 2 Pokémon.
- Options > Encounters:
- Show: wild Pokémon appear on the map, moving only in tall grass (in caves they move on the cave floor). Touch one to start a battle.
- Random: random encounters in grass, as in the original game.
- Placed Pokémon on the map (e.g. the Rattata by the waterfall in the Hidden Village): they only wander within 2 tiles.
- Losing a battle:
- On routes and in towns: you return to the nearest Pokémon Center.
- On the S.S. Anne and on Giant Pokémon Island: Brock lets the whole team rest on the spot.
- In the fake Day Care’s basement (Episode 57): the Pokémon you left are still held; battle again to get them back.
- In the League exam room: the nurse heals you right there in the room.
- Orange Islands: wherever the Orange Islands come up (the sailor, Prof. Oak, the balloon, the end of the League), there’s only the line “I hear something’s coming up in the Orange Islands…”. A future update will open up this part.

# Note: Test Release & How to Report Bugs
Pokémon Anime Version v1.2.2 is a public test release from TekCafe.vn, and it certainly still has bugs. This guide is based on the v1.2.2 data; if you find something in the game that differs from this guide, please let us know.
When you run into a bug (a freeze, a hang, being unable to progress, an event that doesn’t trigger or repeats, wrong or overflowing text, graphical glitches), please send:
- A screenshot taken right when the bug happens.
- Where you were and what you just did (e.g. “Gringey City, I had just beaten Muk and walked up…”).
